We use our smart lights as a fun way of helping our kids get to bed on time. If your kids are anything like ours, they are masters at being able to drag out bedtime with many creative means. Here are some ways that using smart lights can help get kids ready for bed.
- Use colours to signal bed time is approaching. At a set time before bed, turn all the lights in the living area blue for three minutes! This is a fun signal that it's time for brushing teeth and getting ready for bed.
- Once the lights in the living turn white again (maybe in a dimmer "evening mode"), the lights in the kids rooms turn on, but on a timer for half an hour. This gives some time for reading and generally settling in to bed.
- If you want to be even more sophisticated, you can set the bulbs to gradually get dimmer over that half an hour. This simulates a sunset and can actually help them fall asleep naturally.
There are lots of way of engaging your kids with smart lights! Let us know any more ideas you have of things that work for you and your family.
